ARKEMA PHILLY PHLYER COLLEGIATE CYCLING RACE SET TO BREAK RECORDS!

ARKEMA PHILLY PHLYER COLLEGIATE CYCLING RACE SET TO BREAK RECORDS!

The cycling teams of Drexel University, University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins University, Temple University, and Villanova University are pleased to announce the upcoming Arkema Philly Phlyer 2007 Collegiate and Amateur Cycling Race. Growing from its debut appearance in 2006, this year's Philly Phlyer is an official race of both the Eastern and Atlantic Collegiate Cycling Conferences and is set to enter collegiate cycling history as the largest race to date. Estimates put attendance at 550 to 600 racers, well over the previous high of 485 held by the Boston Beanpot Cycling Classic.

Teams from over 60 colleges and universities will be coming to Philadelphia this weekend to compete for season-long standings and Collegiate Road National Championships qualification spots in their respective conferences. The Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference (ECCC) includes colleges in Delaware, New England, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. The Atlantic Collegiate Cycling Conference (ACCC) includes colleges in Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina. Both conferences strive to provide inexpensive racing featuring team-oriented bicycle racing for all abilities with team pride, glory, and honor as the only prize list.

Philadelphia's world-famous Fairmount Park will be the setting for this Eastern versus Atlantic showdown, held in and around the Memorial Hall and Martin Luther King Drive areas. Racers will compete in a multitude of categories in three events: The Arkema Schuylkill Challenge Circuit Race, the longest and most scenic amateur road race held in Philadelphia; The Trophy Bikes Team Time Trial, a test of raw power and teamwork alongside the Schuylkill River; and the Philly Phlyer Criteriums, a challenging display of acceleration and riding skills. These races are once again made possible through the support of several sponsors, with Arkema and Trophy Bikes once again returning as title sponsors. An unlikely combination of world-wide industrial chemicals firm and classic Philadelphia bike shop, their participation continues to enable awesome collegiate racing here in Philadelphia.

The general public is more than welcome to attend and spectate, or even participate in one of the non-collegiate races being held. All races will start and finish by Memorial Hall in West Philadelphia, making it an excellent spectating point. Spectators are also encouraged to bring a bike and ride to other points on the courses.

Detailed schedules, course maps, and other information is all available on the Arkema Philly Phlyer website:
