Spectate!
Saturday: The Phoenixville Fury
The most accessible place to watch the Fury will be along the finishing stretch from Starr/29 to Main St along Bridge St in downtown Phoenixville. Parking will be available behind Bridge St at Main in the area of the Phoenixville Foundry. Please be careful of racers on course while driving to the race!!! There are a number of locations in the immediate area for food, coffee, etc.
On Saturday the largest fields will start at 11am (Men's C) and 1:15pm (Men's B); the fastest fields will start at 1:15pm (Men's A, Men's B). Each lap will take the fastest fields about 45 minutes. In the morning there will be two races on course at any time. In the afternoon there will be three races on course at any one time. There will also be plenty of activity along the finish and by registration with so many cyclists around for the day's racing---over 500 student athletes are expected to participate in this event!
Sunday: The Philly Phlyer
Parking for the Phlyer is located on the west side of Memorial Hall. The course is generally very accessible by foot or bike, though we ask that everyone remain on the sidewalks and grass rather than on course. In particular, along West River/MLK Drive, please use the bike path rather than the road! There are no food vendors nearby within the park, so plan accordingly.
For Sunday's Trophy Bikes Team Time Trial, teams will start going off at 8am and launch in 30 second intervals. The best places to watch are by the PA Civil War Memorial as squads charge up the hill on Black Rd and make a hard right into the finish, or at Sweetbriar and West River as teams head down from Memorial Hall, then to the Art Museum and finally back toward Falls Bridge.
For Sunday's circuit race the largest fields will start at about noon (Men's C) and 1pm (Men's B), with the fastest fields starting at about 1pm (Men's B) and 2pm (Men's A, Men's 3/4). Each lap will take the fastest fields about 16 minutes. There will generally be 2 races on course at all times. The Memorial Hall area is an excellent area to watch, as the race comes up a quick climb (Black Rd) and goes through a moderately technical chicane sequence and fast loop in front of Memorial Hall before plunging back down Lansdowne and Sweetbriar to the river. This keeps the racers in sight for several minutes. Strawberry Mansion Bridge also offers excellent vantage points, providing a view of racers approaching on the river, beginning the tough climb there, then swooping back down and charging toward the finish along the river. Sweetbriar and West River Dr is also a popular spectating point as the race flies down a quick descent and then takes a wide, sweeping corner at top speed onto the river.
