Weather Tips
Cold Weather
Everyone knows you gotta start dressing up when it starts gettin' cold. Here are some other points you may not have come across.
- Chapstick. The combination of cold, dry air and lots of airflow while riding will reek havoc on your lips. They'll chap and break in no time. To prevent this, get in the habit of using chapstick all the time. Put it on before every ride, at night, and whenever you feel your lips drying out. Look for formulas with sunscreen included, to prevent the additional hazard of getting a sunburn on your lip since you're not outdoors much over the winter and have little tolerance.
- Sports Drinks. Hydration over the winter is challenging. It's just as important as in the summer, but you won't be thirsty. Redouble your focus on periodically drinking, and you may want to consider placing more emphasis on using whatever sports drink you prefer. That'll maximize the benefit of the few sips you do take.
